Maui Elopement Frequently Asked Questions

What is a typical elopement or intimate wedding ceremony in Maui like?

What is a typical elopement or intimate wedding ceremony in Maui like?

We will meet at a chosen beach at the chosen time. We can walk in together and pick the best spot of the beach for your beach wedding. We will make sure we're all set in the best lighting for the photographer and begin the ceremony!

For a beach wedding ceremony, we like to keep the ceremony intimate, short and sweet so that you can spend more time getting amazing pics with your photographer. It will usually last 15-20 minutes.  Most photographers will book 1-2 hour sessions. Typically 1 hour is enough for an elopement to be able to cover the 15 minute ceremony and then 45 minutes of beach photos. If you have guests, we suggest adding on 30-60 minutes with your photographer as it takes a lot more time to coordinate and wrangle family. You don't want to miss out on getting enough photos of you!

Here’s a basic outline of the ceremony, it will be personalized from here:

*The Meaning of Aloha

*Lei Exchange (if you choose the Sweet Escape Package or higher)

*Vows

*I Do’s

*Ring Exchange

*Pronouncement

PS - add on hair and makeup! I'm a licensed cosmetologist! I'll come to your hotel and get you glammed up so you feel your best!

Family Elopement - bring your kids with you to be part of your beach wedding.

The process of getting your marriage license  in Maui, Hawaii is much different than on the mainland. Since we're a small island, we don't have a government building you can visit. So, once you've applied for your license online, you will set an appointment to meet with a Hawaii State Marriage License Agent. They will meet you at a designated place of their choosing sometime after arriving in Maui and before the ceremony. They typically take appointments Monday through Saturday on various sides of the island. When you meet with your agent, you’ll need a form of identification – official passport, Driver’s license or military ID – as well as the name of your wedding officiant. If either of you have previously been recently divorced, you will need an official copy of your divorce decree. Don't worry, we will help walk you through the whole process!

What if there's bad weather the day of the elopement?

What is the best time of year to get married in Maui, Hawaii?

Sunrise Beach Elopement in Maui, Hawaii.

Maui is almost always beautiful with the most amazing weather...that's what makes it paradise. However, with Mother Nature, you just never know. It's impossible to know if there will be rain or wind the day of your elopement. If you decide to elope in Maui, you must go into it with an open heart, be flexible, and know that no matter what, you get to marry the love of your life. Here in Hawaii, we believe rain is good luck as it washes away the old and brings new life. Plus, the rain almost always followed by a rainbow, which is so beautiful!

The weather in Maui can change very quickly. So, we like to wait until the very last minute to make any calls as most of the time if there is rain, it clears quickly. Also, because of Maui's diverse micro climates, if it's raining on one side of the island, it's generally not raining on another side. This is why elopements with just the couple or a few guests is ideal as you can change locations easily and quickly. We will only reschedule if it's not safe to be outside or if it's too wet for the camera equipment. In that case, we will do our best to reschedule to another time or day.

Do I really need help with wedding coordination and planning? Or, can I just do the "Officiant Only"

What is the best time of year to get married in Maui, Hawaii?

Sunrise Beach Elopement in Maui, Hawaii.

Let's get real, anytime is a great time to get married in paradise! However here's a few things to consider when planning the perfect date.

  • The busiest/most expensive time of the year in Maui is Christmas though April. When it's colder on the mainland, everyone dreams of being somewhere warm. Plus, the humpback whales grace Maui with lots of love during that time. If you don't mind the busy season, it's a very magical time to be in Maui!
  • Maui is beautiful year round but just like anywhere else, we have our seasons. Winter does tend to be a little rainier, but that brings more rainbows and greenery! Summer tends to be pretty warm and humid but less rain. Sunrise and sunset ceremonies are the best in the summer to avoid the heat of the day, crowds, and to take advantage of the best lighting.

Just the Two of You, Celebrating Your Beach Elopement.

Maui is known for it's sunsets, so a sunset ceremony is the go to! Sunrises in Maui can be just as beautiful! Here's some pros and cons for both.

  1. Sunrise Pros - Less people, quiet beaches, calmer waters, softer lighting, less wind, cooler temps before the heat sets in, you have the rest of the day to play.
  2. Sunrise Cons - Early start (usually 5:30-6:30am), may have early start fees for some vendors.
  3. Sunset Pros - Beautiful sunset colors, temps are starting to cool down, you'll have then whole day to get ready, no early start fees for vendors, can book dinner reservations right after to make a night of it.
  4. Sunset Cons - It's possible to have more people on the beaches (although most clear out late afternoon), may be other weddings around you, tends to be more windy.

Whichever time you choose, even if it's busy, don't stress. We will find the perfect corner of the beach just for you! We always suggest avoiding between 8am-4pm as it tends to be the busiest and hottest time of day with the harshest lighting.

Two top reasons to order a bridal bouquet:

1. Having a bouquet adds color and a bridal look to your photos

2. Holding a bouquet gives you something to do with your hands and adds as another prop for your photos.

We use local florists and farms that make beautiful bridal bouquets and hand tied leis using fresh, local flowers whenever possible. Your flowers will be delivered to your hotel or condo or straight to the ceremony, so there's no stress. For a bridal bouquet, you can choose from:

  • White with greenery
  • Tropical Mix
  • Pastel Mix
